My role
Design Director / Senior Designer
Eco Mode removes the need to think about when to charge. Charging happens automatically, based on energy prices and usage patterns. The user doesn’t manage it. The system does.
My Role
Worked from concept to implementation
Collaborated closely with product leadership, CEO and owner Didrik Eidsvig
Defined interaction model and system behavior
Designed UX and UI and integrated the feature into CloudCharge
Problem
Charging depends on timing.
Prices fluctuate.
Charging at the wrong time is expensive.
Users have to decide when to start and stop.
Most solutions add control.
That increases effort.
Insight
Users don’t want to manage charging.
They want it handled.
Reframing
We designed the feature.
But more importantly, we removed the decision.

System Behavior
Charging shifts automatically.
When prices are high, it waits.
When prices drop, it charges.
The car is ready when it needs to be.
No input required.

From System to Product
The challenge was not optimization.
It was trust.
Users need to understand what is happening, why charging is delayed, and when it will complete.
The interface makes this visible through clear states and predictable feedback.

Solution
Eco Mode runs in the background.
Users enable it once.
Charging becomes automatic, optimized, and predictable.

Experience
Before, users had to decide when to charge.
After, the system decides.
The experience is effortless and reliable.
Impact
Reduces unnecessary decisions.
Lower cost.
Less effort.
Better outcomes.
Key Insight
Good systems remove decisions.
